Content & publishing

Why does a post show Failed or Partially published?

What the two statuses mean, the causes we see most, and how to retry without recreating the post.

The two statuses

Failed means none of the selected platforms accepted the post. Partially published means at least one did and at least one did not. In both cases the post page shows a per-platform result, so you can see exactly which one refused it and why.

Common causes

The most frequent one is an expired social connection. The account shows Reconnect needed under Settings, then Social, and every post to it fails until someone reconnects. Next most common: media the platform rejected (size, format or aspect ratio), a caption that grew past a limit after an edit, or a Facebook connection without a page selected.

Fix and retry

  1. 01Open the post from Manage Content or from the Calendar.
  2. 02Read the per-platform error under the status.
  3. 03Fix the cause. For connections, follow Fix an account that says Reconnect needed.
  4. 04Choose Retry. Only the platforms that failed are sent again; the ones that already published are left alone.
