Describe the role, pick an autonomy level, and Ellum provisions the agent in the background. The Orchestrator appears with it.
Hire in one form
Open AI Staff and choose Hire AI staff. Describe the role in plain words, pick a department and seniority, and set an autonomy level: Supervised, Semi-autonomous or Autonomous. Provisioning runs in the background; the row shows Provisioning and flips to Active when the agent is ready, usually within a minute.
Department and seniority are not decoration. They decide which part of the Knowledge Center the agent reads by default and how it writes, so a Senior Content Strategist and a Junior Community Manager draft differently from the same brief.
Meet the Orchestrator
The first specialist you hire also creates the Orchestrator. It coordinates the fleet, hands work between agents and escalates decisions to you. Talk to it on the Orchestrator page, ask it to stop or resume an agent, or set a content policy for each one.
Manage the roster
The AI Staff table shows Role, Status, Department, Seniority, Autonomy and Hired date. From the row you can Message the agent, Pause it, Resume it, or Decommission it. Pause keeps everything and stops new work. Decommission is permanent; run history stays in Agent Logs.
